THC Pharm announced during the „Deutsche Schmerztag“ to have obtained the patent for the production of half synthetic Dronabinol, the most important medical agent of the Cannabis plant. The company formerly established as a patient initiative thereby secures its leading position as a high quality producer of Dronabinol. Since 1998 THC Pharm produces and distributes Dronabinol as a pure substance in Germany. The oily drops and capsules which need to be manufactured by pharmacists are known to have modest side effects when applied to fight spastics, pain, nausea or anorexia. Further cannabinoids are presently tested.

The patented production process enables to produce dronabinol from hemp fibres in unique quality and purity. In comparison to the demanded 95 % purity of the agent THC Pharm is able to produce 99 % pure Dronabinol.,a significant improvement in security for medical practitioners, pharmacists and patients” said Christian Steup, Director of R & D with THC Pharm.

Further down the pipeline, the company established in 1996 plans to produce a purely synthetic Dronabinol to satisfy requests from other markets.

A medication based on a cannabis spray and produced by a British competitor is expected to obtain a license in Canada this year. As a consequence THC Pharm expects positive effects for the German market. “Regarding the imminent license of a cannabis spray in Canada, we expect an improved situation for the prescription of Dronabinol in Germany” added Holger Rönitz, General Manager of THC Pharm.
