| THC Pharm plans European wide distribution after two years of positive market development |
| Frankfurt, May30th, 2002 Two years after the nation wide market introduction of Dronabinol, the active main ingredient of the cannabis plant, the acceptance of the cannabinoid is growing. Therefore, THC Pharm plans a gradual expansion into the international market. The enterprise formerly founded as an initiative for patients is the only producer of Dronabinol (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) and Cannabidiol (CBD), the purified main ingredient from the Cannabis plant which fights pain and releases cramps. Until now about 450 pharmacies in Germany and Austria use the raw substance to produce capsules, oily drops or an alcoholic inhalation preparation with Dronabinol. In the first quarter of this year sales more than doubled compared to last year, reaching 150.000 €. Holger Rönitz, spokesperson of THC Pharm expects to pass the level of 1 Mio. € by the end of the year. New studies are scheduled to demonstrate the effectiveness of Dronabinol. The company situated in Frankfurt cooperates with several universities to undertake further studies on the therapeutic value of the substance, for example as a remedy for people suffering from dystonia. First positive results have been reported by the Medical University of Hannover about the effectiveness of Dronabinol as a treatment for the Gilles-de-la-Tourette-syndrome. They also affirmed positive experiences from pain therapists using Dronabinol in cases of paraplegia, multiple sclerosis and chronic pain.
